War in Iran / Albanian Government Cuts Fuel Excise by 20%

The Albanian government has undertaken a new fiscal measure to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices in international markets. Through a recently approved normative act, a 20% reduction in excise taxes on diesel and gasoline has been introduced, to be applied under specific conditions.

According to the decision, the excise reduction will take effect if retail fuel prices, as determined by the Transparency Board, exceed 220 lek per liter for diesel and 200 lek per liter for gasoline. The measure aims to ease the financial burden on citizens and businesses at a time when global markets are experiencing significant volatility.

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, stated that this intervention is part of the government’s commitment to responding to extraordinary situations, referring also to recent international developments that have directly influenced the increase in oil prices.

Authorities emphasize that the normative act will remain in force until the situation in international markets stabilizes. The government affirms its commitment to protecting the economy and citizens from the consequences of external crises, while also aiming to maintain budgetary balance during this challenging period.
