Prime Minister Edi Rama described the acts of violence during eight days of protests in Albania as orchestrated by domestic and foreign elements seeking to destabilise Albania and other European countries.
During a meeting with representatives of Albania’s banking sector, Rama announced that the government would soon introduce a package of measures similar to those adopted by other countries. The measures would include establishing a register of violent individuals who would face restrictions on access to hotels, airports and other facilities.
“We will introduce the package of measures as soon as possible and identify the individuals behind anonymous profiles that incite violence. We will relentlessly pursue those who hide behind hoods.
Families will be held financially responsible for any damage caused by minors. Italy and France have done this, and we will do the same.
We will place violent individuals on a special register. We will restrict their access to various means of transport, airports and hotels.
We will cooperate, and we have already begun working with EU countries, to prevent these individuals from travelling.
Violence has no place in Albania. Dialogue, the exchange of ideas, the confrontation of arguments and the new approaches that served us during the extraordinary protests of 2018, which involved students and lecturers, are the way forward.
Not like these individuals who, before being lecturers, are party flag-bearers and break chairs outside the Prime Minister’s Office,” Rama said.
