TIRANA, June 3 – Weather forecaster Lajda Porja has warned that Albania will face very high temperatures during the weekend and next week. Speaking on the RTSH’s “Mirëmëngjes Shqipëri” [Good Morning Albania] show, she said a heatwave will affect much of Europe and bring significantly warmer conditions across the country.
Meanwhile, Porja noted a slight drop in morning temperatures, which continues to create spring-like conditions during the early hours of the day. However, she said temperatures will rise sharply by midday. Forecasts indicate highs of up to 34 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
In addition, she warned that temperatures could reach 36 degrees Celsius during the weekend. She said the perceived temperature could approach 40 degrees. According to Porja, the hottest period of the day will be between 11:00 and 14:00 or 15:00. She advised older people, children, and those with chronic illnesses to take extra precautions during those hours.
At the same time, Porja said this summer is expected to be hotter than last year. She added that high temperatures are likely to persist through August.
She also advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours. In addition, she recommended drinking plenty of fluids and limiting outdoor physical activity during the hottest part of the day.
