TIRANA, August 14 – Albania reported 29 wildfires during the past 24 hours. Eleven remain active, while authorities are monitoring 3 fires and have brought 4 under control.
The Ministry of Defence said 249 firefighters, 48 police officers, 233 municipal and forestry personnel, 206 volunteers and 118 Armed Forces personnel are involved in the response. Authorities have deployed 43 firefighting vehicles. The Armed Forces have also provided 9 firefighting vehicles, 4 water tankers, 3 ambulances, 3 helicopters and 2 Air Tractor aircraft.
Meanwhile, operations continue on Mount Dajti above the Qafë-Molla tunnels and in Priska e Madhe, Tirana. Authorities report no current risk to residential areas. Fires also remain active on Mount Nëmërçka in Gjirokastër and Mount Dhëmbel in Përmet, where difficult terrain is hampering operations.
In Gura-Lura, Dibër, dozens of municipal, Armed Forces and police personnel are working with volunteers. Their intervention has secured the perimeter near homes, while 2 Air Tractor aircraft have supported operations from the air.
Active fires have also been reported in Bulqiza, Mirdita, Shkodër, Librazhd and Cërrik. Authorities report no risk to homes in these areas.
The National Civil Protection Agency continues to monitor the situation and coordinate operations across the country.
