As the beginning of August approaches, construction on the final section of the “Taulantia” promenade in Durrësremains unfinished, despite earlier promises from the contractor’s engineer and Mayor Emiriana Sako that the project would be completed by the end of June.
At the construction site, located in one of the city’s busiest public areas, workers and heavy machinery have once again disappeared for the second consecutive summer. The prolonged delays have sparked frustration among residents, who say it is unacceptable for such a major public investment to remain unfinished during the peak tourist season.
“It doesn’t stop us from using the road, but it looks terrible. Construction work should never be left unfinished. It should have been completed on time. It was neglected once, and now it has been abandoned again,” one resident said.
“These works need to be completed as soon as possible. It looks very bad, and it doesn’t seem like they will ever be finished,” another resident added.
The project, which began last year, was scheduled to take eight months, but it has yet to be completed within the planned timeframe. Meanwhile, the construction site has turned into an area where waste is accumulating, damaging the appearance of the promenade and negatively affecting the experience of tourists and visitors during the summer season.
