Young Albanian MPs Complete Study Visit to the European Parliament

The Parliamentary Youth Club and ten newly elected members of Albania’s Parliament completed a three-day study visit to the European Parliament as part of the Young Political Leaders (YPL) Programme for the Western Balkans.

The European Parliament invited the delegation to take part in the visit, which took place from June 29 to July 1. The programme aimed to strengthen institutional cooperation between Albania’s Parliament and the European Parliament, create a platform for dialogue among young lawmakers, promote the European Union enlargement process, and encourage the exchange of parliamentary best practices.

Kiduina Zaka, Chair of the Parliamentary Youth Club, led the delegation. Meanwhile, the European Parliament’s Democracy and Election Support Coordination Group organized the programme.

During the visit, the MPs participated in working sessions, thematic discussions, and practical exercises focusing on the European Parliament’s decision-making processes. They also met with Members of the European Parliament and institutional representatives, including Marco Tarquinio, Konstantinos Arvanitis, Andreas Schieder, and Lukas Mandl.

Furthermore, participants discussed Albania’s EU integration process, the implementation of reforms, the strengthening of the rule of law, the protection of human rights, and the challenges associated with European Union membership.

A significant part of the programme focused on simulations of the European Parliament’s legislative and negotiation procedures. As a result, the young MPs took part in practical exercises designed to build consensus on parliamentary initiatives while gaining firsthand experience of the culture of dialogue, compromise, and political cooperation that characterizes European institutions.

According to Albania’s Parliament, the visit marked an important step toward strengthening the capacities of young MPs, deepening cooperation with the European Parliament, and supporting Parliament’s role in advancing Albania’s European Union accession process.
