250 Recruits Begin Basic Training to Join Albania’s Armed Forces

A total of 250 recruits, including 28 women, have begun Basic Individual Training as they take their first steps toward military careers in the Albanian Armed Forces.

At a send-off ceremony at the “Skënderbej” Garrison in Tirana, Defense Minister Ermal Nufi praised the recruits for choosing to serve their country. He stressed that military service demands courage, commitment and the readiness to face challenges.

“It is a special feeling for me to be here today as 250 young men and women, among the best our country has to offer, choose to join the Armed Forces. This is not an easy decision. You will face many challenges, but you will be proud of yourselves when you overcome them,” Nufi said.

The minister also highlighted the personal and professional fulfilment that military service can bring, despite the sacrifices the profession demands.

“The pride, joy and professional and personal satisfaction you will gain from serving your country will stay with you throughout your lives,” he added.

Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Arben Kingji also attended the ceremony.

The recruits will undergo Basic Individual Training from Oct. 26, 2026, to Jan. 8, 2027, at training centres in Poshnje, Berat; Vau i Dejës; and Zall-Herr, Tirana, home to the Special Operations Regiment.

During the programme, they will develop essential military knowledge and skills while strengthening their discipline, confidence, professional competence and ability to work as a team.
