Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha took part today in the 12th edition of the Tirana Connectivity Forum. The forum focuses on connectivity, regional cooperation and the European future of the Western Balkans.
In his speech, Hoxha said political commitments to EU enlargement must lead to concrete steps toward membership. He also called for a clear roadmap agreed with the European Union.
“Albania is doing its part. We are moving forward chapter by chapter, criterion by criterion and reform by reform. Our goal is to conclude the accession negotiations by 2027,” Hoxha said.
He stressed that reforms are not conditions imposed from outside. Instead, they are investments in a stronger, more democratic and more prosperous Albania.
Hoxha also backed gradual integration into the EU. This approach would allow candidate countries to join EU policies and programs and benefit from its market before full membership.
“Through gradual participation in EU policies, the Single Market, joint programs and strategic projects, we can speed up convergence. At the same time, we can strengthen confidence in the enlargement process,” Hoxha said.
He added that gradual integration cannot replace full membership. However, he said it can provide a more credible, practical and sustainable path toward joining the European Union.
