Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Citizens’ Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight held a two-day working visit to Berlin. They focused on handling petitions and citizens’ initiatives, strengthening parliamentary oversight and deepening institutional cooperation.
At the German Bundestag, the delegation attended a meeting of the Committee on Petitions and exchanged views with representatives of all parliamentary groups. Discussions covered petition procedures, committee powers, relations with the executive, federal agencies and independent institutions, as well as citizen participation in parliamentary processes. At the Federal Chancellery, talks with Edgar Lenski, Director for EU General Affairs and Coordination, focused on institutional cooperation and parliamentary oversight in the context of Albania’s EU integration process. Lenski reaffirmed the German government’s and Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s support for Albania’s EU membership.
The delegation also met with officials from the Federal Foreign Office and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. The meetings focused on German parliamentary practices, transparency, accountability and democratic oversight. Niels von Redecker also proposed holding an event in Tirana within the Berlin Process, focusing on petitions, citizens’ initiatives and parliamentary oversight.
