During today’s parliamentary plenary session, where territorial reform is being discussed, the head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, defended the proposal to change the country’s territorial division.
He stated that the opposition has until next week to submit its proposals.
“This will be voted on today. You have until next Thursday to think it over and prepare your proposals. After nearly 50 days, we will discuss another proposal submitted by you. But this one will be voted on today.
I remind you that the mandate of the Special Electoral Reform Commission expires at the end of November, so we still have time. The two co-chairs deserve our respect for the work they have done,” Balla said.
Meanwhile, Balla argued that the reform aims to improve public services for citizens and transfer responsibilities to the new municipalities.
“As for the reform we are voting on today, it is the result of excellent work, during which municipalities were consulted. This reform has only one purpose. The difference between us and you is that you care about the mayor, while we care about the citizens of the municipality.
We guarantee better public services for the residents of the 46 new municipalities, and we are ready to transfer responsibilities to these municipalities, including functions that some of them currently do not perform.
You are concerned about political positions, while we are concerned about services. We will vote against the request submitted by the head of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group.
As for the other request to remove the interpellations, it is ridiculous. These are the same people who shout that they want interpellations, yet today they do not want them,” Taulant Balla said.
