Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha attended a conference on Trans-European Transport Corridor VIII in Sofia, Bulgaria, organised by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova. The conference followed a ministerial meeting that Albania hosted in Tirana in February.
Hoxha said the Tirana meeting established a shared political vision for the corridor. He stressed that the next step should focus on concrete implementation. Albania wants a single, fully functional corridor rather than a series of disconnected national projects.
Meanwhile, Hoxha said Corridor VIII is more than a transport project. He described it as a strategic East-West link connecting the Adriatic and Black seas. He said it brings together economic, energy and security interests. He also highlighted its importance for military mobility and closer coordination between the European Union and NATO on dual-use infrastructure.
The Albanian foreign minister called for a clear list of priority projects, realistic deadlines, stronger coordination between governments and a permanent mechanism to monitor implementation. He said Albania has moved from political commitment to implementation and will work to turn Corridor VIII from a vision into reality.
