1,500 Families Await Approval of Subsidized Loans, Veliaj Calls for Municipal Council Decision on October 29

Around 1,500 families in Tirana are one step away from moving forward with the procedures to obtain subsidized housing loans. Following the publication of the list of selected beneficiaries, Mayor Erion Veliaj has called on the Municipal Council to approve the entire list at its October 29 meeting.

In an Instagram post, Veliaj congratulated the selected families while also addressing the difficulties he claims to be facing in carrying out his duties as mayor.

“Despite the persecution, isolation, and refusal of any work meetings with municipal staff, which makes it extremely difficult for me to properly serve the citizens who voted for me, I am pleased that this week we are making the dream of 1,500 families a reality, as they have been selected as beneficiaries of the subsidized loan program!” he wrote.

The mayor emphasized that approval of the list by the Municipal Council is a necessary step for beneficiaries to move to the next stage and continue the procedures with banks.

“I have proposed that the Tirana Municipal Council approve the entire list at its October 29 meeting so that these families can afford to purchase a new home. I can imagine their joy, and I sincerely congratulate them,” Veliaj stated.

The support scheme aims to make homeownership more affordable for low-income families by subsidizing loan interest rates. Under the program, the interest rate is set at 3%, while eligibility and benefits are determined based on the number of family members and the application criteria.

Once the list is approved, the selected families must contact banks that have agreements with the Municipality of Tirana to proceed with the loan application process.
