Southern road linking Tirana, Durrës and the coast advances

Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi announced progress on the Kombinat–Ndroq–Plepa road, a southern alternative route from Tirana towards Durrës and the coast.

The Albanian Road Authority has completed the first 5-kilometre section to Peza and formally taken it over. It has also finalised the contract for the next 9 kilometres. The following 10-kilometre section towards Plepa in Durrës has secured funding. The authority is completing the documents needed to launch the competitive tendering procedure by mid-November.

Karakaçi said the road would provide an alternative connection to Durrës, particularly during the tourist season, when traffic towards the coast increases. The route also serves an agricultural area and improves access between Tirana and Durrës. He added that the project could increase property values in the surrounding area.
