Finance Minister Petrit Malaj presented Albania’s 2027 draft state budget and fiscal package at the Assembly’s Conference of Chairpersons. The meeting is expected to set the timetable for parliamentary discussions and approval.
The Democratic Party did not attend, saying its lawmakers had not received the supporting documents needed to review the proposals. Its parliamentary group said the missing materials included draft laws, explanatory reports and financial documentation.
The party also raised concerns about the short notice for the meeting. It cited parliamentary rules stating that meetings of the Conference of Chairpersons should normally take place at least 48 hours after notification.
The Democratic Party said it supported discussion of the budget but wanted a process that allowed sufficient time for scrutiny. It called for the immediate delivery of the draft budget and accompanying documents to lawmakers.
The party also requested a timetable that would allow time for analysis, questions, debate and amendments. It urged the parliamentary speaker to ensure compliance with parliamentary rules and protect the rights of all lawmakers.
