Albanian Academy of Sciences honours late academician Luan Omari

The Academy of Sciences of Albania has held a ceremony honouring academician Luan Omari, who passed away recently at the age of 101. Academics, researchers, colleagues and former associates attended the event to remember his contribution to Albanian law, education and culture.

Omari was a founding member of the Academy and served as its scientific secretary and vice-president. He also played a major role at the University of Tirana, where he served as dean of the Faculty of Law for nearly two decades and taught state theory and public law.

Beyond academia, Omari represented Albania at the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission. He authored numerous studies and monographs on Albanian legal history, the legal system and constitutional law. After the 1990s, he also contributed to discussions and processes concerning the drafting of the country’s Constitution and fundamental legislation.

In recognition of his work, the president awarded him the “George Kastrioti Skanderbeg” decoration in 2020. The Academy of Sciences presented him with its Academic Career Award in 2016.
