Albania Protests Enter Day 18 as Rama Calls for Dialogue

The protests by students and citizens against the government continue this Friday, marking their 18th consecutive day. Despite repeated calls for dialogue from Prime Minister Edi Rama, protesters remain firm in their position, demanding his resignation.

Earlier today, Rama once again shared images on social media showing chairs placed outside the Prime Minister’s Office, reiterating his invitation for talks with students. The Prime Minister has repeatedly expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue, describing it as the way to address their demands.

However, protesters have so far rejected this format of communication, while calls for Rama’s resignation have become a central demand of the demonstrations. The movement, which initially began with demands related to education and student conditions, has since expanded to include broader public participation and concerns over governance.

The Prime Minister has ruled out resigning, arguing that his government received its mandate through elections. As Rama continues to call for dialogue, protesters insist that the solution they are seeking is his departure from office.

The demonstrations have also been marked by episodes of tension and clashes between police and protesters in Tirana in recent days.

Meanwhile, mobilization is expected to continue throughout the weekend. Another anti-government protest has been called for this Saturday, as both sides remain divided and there has been no development so far indicating a resolution to the situation.

On the 18th day of demonstrations, the protests continue, while it remains to be seen whether the repeated calls for dialogue will lead to any new developments in relations between the government and protesters.
