Berat Welcomes Over One Million Tourists in 10 Months, Autumn Offers Wine-Tasting Tours

Berat welcomed more than one million tourists between January and October 2026, marking a 15% increase compared with the same period last year.

The city’s cobbled streets, historic houses and autumn-coloured vineyards attract visitors throughout the year. Mild temperatures also make autumn ideal for exploring Berat Castle and its historic neighbourhoods without the summer crowds.

Visitors can combine sightseeing with wine-tasting tours and trips to nearby villages. Many wineries and rural tourism destinations lie within 10 kilometres of the city centre, offering visitors more reasons to extend their stay.

Mayor Ervin Ceca said the city’s accommodation and service businesses had reported a 15% rise in visitors. The Onufri Iconographic Museum also recorded strong figures, welcoming 100,000 visitors in the first 10 months of the year.

Located inside Berat Castle, the museum preserves important works of Albanian iconography. The Ethnographic Museum offers another glimpse into local traditions through historical objects and household artefacts.

Beyond the historic centre, Roshnik attracts visitors with its local produce, natural surroundings and traditional hospitality. Bogovë also offers opportunities for outdoor activities.

Autumn brings additional attractions. Local wineries organise tours and tastings, allowing visitors to discover grape varieties, learn about wine production and sample regional products. The grape and olive harvests also highlight the area’s agricultural traditions.

Berat’s tourism offer extends beyond its cultural heritage. Traditional cuisine, olive oil, honey, fresh fruit and homemade products give visitors an authentic taste of local life.

The municipality aims to attract tourists throughout the year by expanding its cultural calendar and promoting wine tourism, gastronomy and agritourism.

Ceca stressed the importance of cooperation between hotels, restaurants, wineries, tour operators and local producers. He said these partnerships could extend the tourist season, support local businesses and create jobs.

The municipality also plans to improve tourist information, maintain public spaces and upgrade infrastructure. At the same time, it will continue to protect the city’s cultural heritage and strengthen cooperation with domestic and international tour operators.

Through these efforts, Berat aims to turn its cultural, natural and culinary assets into a year-round tourism offer and generate lasting benefits for the local economy.
