Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Andis Salla visited the Orikum pumping station following the completion of its reconstruction. The investment aims to improve flood protection for agricultural land.
The station had lost drainage capacity because of ageing infrastructure. The project replaced 4 old electric pumps with modern submersible pumps. It also renovated the building and related structures. The work upgraded the electrical, control and safety systems to ensure more reliable and efficient operation.
With its drainage capacity restored to 3.7 cubic metres per second, the station is expected to improve flood protection for around 460 hectares of farmland in the Orikum plain. The upgrade will also support better water drainage and agricultural activity in the area.
