Interior Minister Ervin Demo has presented the government’s proposed 2027 budget for the Interior Ministry to the Assembly’s Committee on Internal Affairs and Defence. The plan allocates around ALL 40 billion, a 12% increase from 2026 and the ministry’s highest budget allocation to date. It aims to strengthen public security, professional standards and public services.
The budget focuses on 3 priorities: investment in personnel, modernisation of the State Police through technology, equipment and infrastructure, and stronger local government capacity.
Police pay rises account for ALL 3.3 billion. The plan covers 8,174 officers with the rank of Inspector, representing 73% of ranked police personnel. Their monthly rank-based salary will rise by ALL 20,000. Including seniority, the average monthly increase will reach ALL 23,600, or 27%. Officers with other ranks will receive a monthly rank-based increase of ALL 15,000. Their average increases, including seniority, will range from 8% to 17%.
Demo said better pay and modern equipment must go hand in hand with professional standards, discipline, integrity and respect for the law. He stressed that support for officers must also ensure accountability, proper conduct and respect for citizens’ rights.
