Bank of Albania keeps key interest rate unchanged at 2.5%

The Bank of Albania has kept its key interest rate unchanged at 2.5%. The Supervisory Council announced the decision on November 3.

Governor Gent Sejko also confirmed that the overnight deposit rate will remain at 1.5%. Meanwhile, the overnight lending rate will stay at 3.5%.

Sejko said the decision reflects growing economic uncertainty and the need for a cautious monetary policy. He explained that the current approach offers the best balance between managing risks and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Furthermore, the central bank aims to bring inflation back to its target while maintaining favourable monetary conditions for the economy.

Sejko also warned that stronger inflationary pressures from abroad and rising risks to the economic outlook require a flexible approach.

He stressed that future decisions will depend on new economic and financial data. The Bank of Albania will closely monitor inflation, economic activity and financial developments.

The governor added that the Supervisory Council remains ready to respond to any risks that could threaten price stability.
