Nufi: NATO must strengthen cooperation against hybrid threats and disinformation

Albania’s Defence Minister Ermal Nufi has called for stronger cooperation among NATO member states to counter hybrid threats, disinformation and malicious online campaigns.

In an interview with POLITICO Europe, Nufi warned that these threats aim to undermine public trust, fuel divisions and weaken the resilience of democratic societies.

He also called for a more active NATO role, supported by coordinated mechanisms, specialised expertise and rapid-response teams to assist member countries.

According to the Ministry of Defence, security goes beyond protecting national territory. It also means safeguarding institutions, citizens and the information space.

Furthermore, the ministry stressed Albania’s commitment to a stronger, better-prepared and more united Alliance.

“Faced with new challenges, our country remains committed to an Alliance where the security of every member is part of our collective security,” the ministry said.
