PM Rama says Albania has entered the final stretch of EU accession negotiations

Prime Minister Edi Rama has described the European Commission’s 2026 progress report as the best Albania has ever received. He made the remarks at a joint press conference with European Union Ambassador Sofia Moreira de Sousa, who formally presented the report. Rama said the document marked a new path towards membership, focused on the steps Albania must take to complete its European journey.

The prime minister said Albania had entered the final stretch of accession negotiations and that its European future now depended entirely on its own efforts. Compared with a year earlier, the country’s level of readiness had risen significantly in at least 20 negotiating chapters, according to the report. Rama also cited progress in the economy, digital transformation, energy, education and the alignment of legislation with European Union standards.
