Malaj: Only Two Secondary Acts Remaining Before Launch of Online Betting

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, stated today that the process for opening online sports betting is in its final stage, with only two secondary legal acts remaining to be approved before licensed operators can begin operating legally.

In a press conference, Malaj said that these acts are being coordinated with the Ministry of Justice of Albania and, once final agreement is reached, they will be published to pave the way for the licensing of operators.

“Regarding online sports betting, two secondary acts remain, which we are coordinating with the Ministry of Justice. After completing this process, they will be published so we can proceed with licensing operators,” the minister said.

When asked about the progress of the “fiscal peace” initiative, Malaj emphasized that the process depends on the approval of secondary acts and is expected to come into force within the month of May.

According to him, implementation may take place in either the first or second half of the month, while any changes to deadlines will depend on the progress of approvals and, if necessary, will be accompanied by legal amendments.

“Regarding the secondary acts for the cancellation of customs and tax obligations and fiscal peace, they are expected to enter into force within May. Depending on the progress of the process, it will be decided whether there will be an extension or not,” Malaj added.
