Rama: Turn Elbasan into a City of Startups and Innovation

Prime Minister Edi Rama urged Elbasan to become a leading city for startups and innovation during a meeting with winners of Albania’s national startup program for 2025 and new applicants for 2026.

During the event, young innovators presented projects in technology and the digital economy. Meanwhile, organizers highlighted the rapid growth of Albania’s tech sector. The country now counts 3,300 registered technology companies and more than 21,000 employees in IT and innovation.

Rama praised the fast expansion of technology and its growing impact on young people. He said digital transformation now creates new opportunities for Albanians to work for the global market while remaining in Albania.

In addition, the Prime Minister pointed to a 15% increase in students enrolled in digital technology programs. According to Rama, this rise reflects the growing interest of young people in a sector with strong potential.

Furthermore, Rama stressed the role of technology in transforming the labor market. He described the current period as a major opportunity for Albania in the age of digital development.

He also noted that Elbasan now has 27 schools equipped with smart laboratories. These labs help children enter the world of coding and technology from an early age.

At the same time, Rama encouraged young people to dream big and use technology to shape their future and improve their communities. He said failures should motivate people to learn and return stronger.

Moreover, Rama spoke about the intense competition in the technology industry. He said success demands persistence, sacrifice, and courage. He encouraged young innovators to continue chasing ambitious goals despite the challenges.

Rama added that everyone has the right to dream of becoming the next Steve Jobs. However, he stressed that only those who stay committed and work hard can turn those dreams into reality.

Finally, the Prime Minister congratulated the winners of the startup program and encouraged unsuccessful applicants to continue their efforts with patience and determination.

He also highlighted the growing number of female winners in startup competitions and called on more young women to join the field.

In conclusion, Rama expressed hope that Elbasan will become known as a city of startups, innovation, and young entrepreneurs who create prosperity for themselves and their community.
