Radio Tirana in 1947, rare photographs from Albanian Telegraphic Agency archive

TIRANA, May 19 – The archive of the Albanian news agency (ATSH) contains rare photographs of Radio Tirana dated 1947. The images show the radio’s facilities, speakers, technicians and broadcasting equipment. They also feature antennas, an orchestra and singers performing live in front of microphones.

Radio Tirana was founded in 1938 during the Albanian Kingdom period. Its first broadcast took place on Albania’s Independence Day. The Albanian Telegraphic Agency archive photographs were taken nine years after the station’s inauguration.

The station was the first national radio broadcaster in Albania. It later became part of Albanian Radio and Television. In later years, Radio Tirana also became known for international broadcasts in several foreign languages.

The images also show singer Behije Çela, the broadcasting hall, the recording studio and the Radio Tirana orchestra.
