Ancient 1,800-Year-Old Mosaic in Tirana Attracts Growing Number of Foreign Tourists

The Tirana Mosaic is becoming an increasingly popular cultural attraction for foreign visitors. Tirana Mosaic is now considered an important educational and cultural destination in the capital.

Director of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Kostandin Budurushi, said the site has seen a significant rise in visitors after its restoration.

He said tourists are surprised to find an archaeological site over 1,800 years old in the heart of Tirana. Budurushi added that visitor numbers have increased by about 40 percent.

The site now receives around 15 to 20 foreign visitors per day, mostly from Europe and the United States. The mosaic is visited by organized tour groups, students and independent tourists.

Educational activities are also held at the site. These include guided tours and interactive programs for school children.

The mosaic dates back to the 3rd century AD. It was discovered in 1972 during construction works. Officials said the site is open to the public on weekdays and remains a protected cultural monument.
