Rama: Albania-EU Conference on May 26 Opens Final Phase of Membership Talks

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted this morning to the completion of the technical phase of the IBAR report, responding to opposition claims that Albania’s EU negotiations had stalled.

Rama said the Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels on May 26 will successfully conclude the opening phase and launch the final phase of accession negotiations.

“Unlike what our critics claim day and night, the European Albania we are building is a success story,” Rama wrote.

The prime minister accused the opposition of spreading false claims that negotiations had been blocked and that Albania had been punished by Europe. He also criticized protests and campaigns aimed at damaging Albania’s international image.

“They lost again. Albania won again,” Rama said.

He described the upcoming conference as “another day of pride for Albania” and praised state institutions, the negotiating team, parliament, and the government for their work on the country’s path toward EU membership.

Rama also thanked Albanians for their support and called Albania’s EU integration a “historic mission.”
