TIRANA, May 26 – Prosecutor Vladimir Mara on Tuesday praised cooperation with the Bari Anti-Mafia Directorate and law enforcement agencies across Europe in operations targeting criminal groups.
Speaking during a joint press conference with the Bari Anti-Mafia Directorate, Mara focused on a joint investigation that targeted a criminal group involved in narcotics trafficking and money laundering.
He described the operation as the result of coordinated investigative work between Albanian and Italian authorities. In addition, he said the current case marks the sixth joint investigative team between the Albanian prosecution office and the Italian Anti-Mafia Directorate.
According to Mara, cooperation between the two sides has produced concrete results. Investigators documented episodes of drug trafficking as well as the transfer and laundering of criminal proceeds linked to the group.
At the same time, he said Albanian prosecutors cooperate not only with the Bari prosecution office, but also with law enforcement agencies across Europe and beyond.
He noted that Albanian organised crime figures have established ties with criminal elements in Italy, creating new forms of cooperation and advancing criminal activity. As a result, he described international cooperation as essential in combating organised crime.
