PM Rama publishes AI-generated media analysis on coverage patterns in Albania

TIRANA, May 26 – Prime Minister Edi Rama published an artificial intelligence-generated analysis of media coverage in Albania on social media platform X. He said the report examines patterns in public communication and media visibility. The publication follows a recent assessment by Reporters Without Borders. In addition, Rama is in Brussels for the Albania–European Union Intergovernmental Conference.

The analysis is based on monitoring of more than 100,000 articles across 47 media outlets over a 120-day period. It presents data on the distribution of media attention among public figures and institutions. It also includes outlets commonly considered close to the executive. At the same time, the report provides comparative exposure metrics across media sources.

Rama said he shared an expanded dataset analysis with Reporters Without Borders. He said the material covers 106,000 articles and provides measurable indicators of media exposure. According to the cited figures, government-related coverage stands at 31.8 percent, while other political actors account for 68.2 percent.

In addition, the report notes that critical coverage appears more frequent than positive coverage of government activity. It describes this as a recurring pattern in reporting. The analysis also states that these indicators do not align with characteristics of a fully controlled media system.

Meanwhile, Rama said the findings are based on measurable data rather than perception. He said the scale of the dataset strengthens the reliability of the assessment. He also said media pluralism is reflected in the distribution of coverage across outlets.

The report further notes that in outlets often described as pro-government, other political actors still receive higher coverage. It also highlights the presence of critical reporting across the media environment.

Finally, Rama said he is open to sharing additional analyses in the future. He framed this as part of a broader discussion on media measurement and transparency in Albania.
