EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos backed Albania’s goal to close EU membership negotiations by the end of 2027.
Kos spoke after the 8th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference in Tirana alongside Prime Minister Edi Rama and Cyprus Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna.
She said Albania’s progress is possible because of strong public support and government leadership. Kos said the enlargement process focuses on improving life for people.
She praised Albanian citizens for their strong support for joining the European Union. Kos said Albania is using an important moment, as EU enlargement has again become a priority for the bloc.
She added that Albania understands this opportunity may not stay open forever. Kos said the European Commission supports the Albanian government’s vision to complete negotiations by the end of 2027.
She ended on a lighter note, saying she and Rama will climb Mount Korab together after negotiations are completed.
