Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania remains the most pro-European country in Europe after the 8th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference.
Rama welcomed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s focus on EU enlargement. He called the attention important and positive. He said enlargement was once a taboo topic, but that has changed.
Rama called for a more creative approach to enlargement. He said Europe faces war and major challenges, and a more united Europe benefits everyone.
He said reports from the European Parliament show that keeping candidate countries outside the European Union costs more than bringing them in.
Rama said EU leaders will continue the discussion at the upcoming EU-Western Balkans summit.
He also spoke about Moldova. He praised President Maia Sandu for leading with courage and a strong European vision.
On Albania, Rama said every EU barometer confirms the country’s strong support for Europe. He said Albania stays committed to reforms and will continue working toward EU membership.
Rama added that in today’s Europe, no country is too small to matter and no country is strong enough to stand alone.
