TIRANA, June 1 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania will continue its plan to develop Zvërnec as a major global tourism destination. He made the remarks during a government meeting in Tirana. He responded to concerns raised by environmental groups and civil society organizations.
Meanwhile, Rama said Albania risks repeating past development models if it returns to earlier policies. He referred to tourism development in Golem (Durrës) as an example. He said the country must move toward higher-end tourism investment.
In addition, he said Albania should enter what he called the “top league of global tourism”. He stressed the need for investments that attract high-spending visitors.
Rama said the Zvërnec project involves international partners investing around four billion ALL. He said institutions in Albania and international partners verified the use of funds for land purchase. He said anti-money laundering authorities carried out strict checks.
At the same time, he said the investors acquired the land directly. He added that they operate as owners, not short-term developers. He compared this model with past construction practices in other areas of Tirana.
As a result, Rama said Albania now attracts strong international investor interest. He said the country aims to move toward higher-value tourism and increased economic returns.
