Sudden temperature fluctuations have led to an increase in cases of respiratory viral infections in Elbasan. Doctors at local health centers report that five to six patients per day are seeking medical attention with symptoms such as coughing, fever, body aches, and severe fatigue. The most vulnerable groups remain children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses.

“A seasonal respiratory virus is currently circulating and affecting a large portion of the population. Patients are presenting with symptoms such as cough, body aches, weakness, and fever. This viral infection is favored by temperature changes and spending time in enclosed spaces. The most vulnerable groups are children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with chronic diseases. We advise avoiding crowded indoor environments, staying well hydrated, and consulting a family doctor at the first signs of symptoms,” said Evis Gjorga, a General Practitioner.

During this spring season, doctors also stress the importance of distinguishing between respiratory viral infections and seasonal allergies, as citizens often confuse the symptoms.

“Since we are in the spring season, it is important to differentiate between seasonal allergies and respiratory viral infections. Patients should consult their family doctor for an accurate diagnosis. Viral infections are usually accompanied by fever, headaches, and body aches, while allergies typically cause sneezing, watery eyes, and nasal irritation, but without fever,” she added.

According to healthcare professionals, a single health center in Elbasan is currently recording approximately 35 to 42 cases per week, reflecting an increase in the circulation of seasonal viral infections during this period.
