TIRANA, June 8 – The EU4FoodSafety project will strengthen and modernise Albania’s food control systems, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday, describing the initiative as an important step toward aligning national standards with those of the European Union.
The project, which the European Union and Germany support, will increase laboratory capacities and strengthen official controls. In addition, it will help Albania meet obligations under Chapters 11, 12 and 13 of its European Union accession negotiations.
Rama said the initiative would modernise food, veterinary and phytosanitary control systems across the country. Meanwhile, he noted that the project would bring Albanian standards closer to European Union requirements and support Albania’s membership process.
As a result, the programme aims to increase food safety, improve product quality and strengthen consumer confidence, according to Rama.
