TIRANA, June 16 – According to an article published by the French daily “Le Figaro”, Albania is emerging as one of the most attractive Mediterranean destinations for French tourists seeking summer holiday alternatives. The report, written by Sevin Rey – Sahin, highlights Albania alongside Slovenia and Montenegro as increasingly popular choices.
“Le Figaro” notes that traditional Mediterranean tourism has long been dominated by Spain, Italy, Greece and Croatia. However, countries such as Albania, Slovenia, Montenegro and Cyprus are gaining ground. The article attributes this shift to coastal landscapes, cultural heritage and gastronomy, combined with fewer crowds and lower costs.
The French media outlet reports that Albania is positioning itself as a strong competitor in Mediterranean summer tourism. It notes that the country welcomed 11.7 million visitors in 2024, with tourist numbers rising by 82% compared to 2019.
“Le Figaro” also highlights Albania’s competitive pricing as a key factor behind its growth. Accommodation near the sea ranges between 20 and 40 euros per night. Restaurant meals cost between 7 and 10 euros. Overall holiday costs remain 30% to 50% lower than in Greece or Italy.
The article adds that rising demand is gradually improving standards. During peak season, higher-end hotels reach 100 to 150 euros per night. This development is linked to the arrival of international hotel chains, including Melia Hotels International.
With around 400 kilometres of coastline, Albania offers beaches, hidden bays and clear waters. The French daily describes the Albanian Riviera as one of the most impressive areas, combining turquoise sea and mountain villages. It also references key destinations such as Durrës, Tirana, Kruja, Apollonia and the Butrint wetlands, as well as the Albanian Alps as a growing destination for hiking and adventure tourism.
