TIRANA, June 26 – Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari, together with State Police leaders, presented in Durrës the measures for ensuring public order and safety during the 2026 summer tourist season.
Lamallari said the State Police, Border Police and the Maritime Police Unit will operate with increased capacity, modern technology and full readiness to ensure the safety of citizens and tourists throughout the season. In addition, he said tourism growth brings both economic benefits and greater responsibility, adding that every tourist who chooses Albania also chooses a safe destination.
He stated that tourists contribute to improving the country’s image and act as ambassadors in their home countries. At the same time, he stressed the need to return this trust with higher security standards and better services.
The minister said the police have entered the summer season with a dedicated operational plan to manage the expected high flow of visitors. He added that the authorities remain fully prepared for a safe, calm and successful season.
He also focused on the Maritime Police Unit, describing it as key for beach safety and for preventing incidents involving watercraft. The unit was created in 2023 and has become a central guarantee of safety at sea.
Meanwhile, in 2025 the Maritime Police Unit and Border Police assisted 231 citizens and 80 vessels in difficulty. They also inspected more than 5,600 vessels and sanctioned violations that threatened visitor safety.
For the 2026 season, Lamallari said the Maritime Police Unit will deploy along the entire coastline with 35 water scooters, trained personnel, intensive patrols and aerial drone monitoring. In addition, the Border Police will use direct connection with the TIMS system to speed up procedures for yachts, sailing boats and other vessels visiting Albania.
