Prime Minister Edi Rama announced a new phase of digital infrastructure development in Albanian cities. The goal is to organize communication networks and gradually remove overhead cables.
First, the initiative will shift internet and telecom systems underground. As a result, public spaces will become cleaner and more modern.
Rama said the plan will end the “cable chaos” left from the early expansion of internet networks. Instead, cities will move toward structured underground systems.
In addition, he confirmed that the new national program “Urban Renaissance 2.0” will be presented in July. The program is developed with local governments and focuses on community development.
Furthermore, the plan includes upgrades to water and sewage systems, green public transport, and new parking capacity. It also targets industrial zones and the development of local identity museums.
At the same time, the program will expand support for start-ups. It will strengthen cooperation between municipalities and businesses to boost economic growth.
Finally, Rama said “Urban Renaissance 2.0” is more than an investment package. It is a new governance model based on transparency and citizen involvement. He added that it is another step toward Albania’s goal of joining the EU by 2030.
