Kosova: Bone remains of at least 23 individuals identified in Zubin Potok

TIRANA, August 20 – Kosova’s Special Prosecution Office, in cooperation with the Kosova Police and the Institute of Forensic Medicine, identified bone remains believed to belong to at least 23 individuals during excavation work in suspected locations in Zubin Potok. The Institute of Forensic Medicine carried out preliminary examinations at the site on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the authorities said the remains require further forensic examinations and procedures for full identification. The Special Prosecution Office and the Kosovo Police’s Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes will continue their investigations into the case.

Three people, identified as J.R., M.J. and M.B., are currently under investigation on suspicion of committing war crimes against the civilian population. The authorities said all three remain in pre-trial detention.

The Special Prosecution Office, Kosova Police and Institute of Forensic Medicine said they would pursue the process with professional and impartial standards. They also pledged to respect the dignity of victims and the families of missing persons. Any new information will be made public in accordance with legal requirements.
