Albania has reached its target of more than 600 MW in new renewable energy capacity ahead of schedule. Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Enea Karakaçi said the energy sector reforms are producing concrete results.
He said the government is modernizing the legal framework and aligning it with European Union standards. The reforms also support renewable energy, reduce energy poverty and promote energy communities.
Albania has introduced a system of guarantees of origin for renewable energy. The system gives consumers more information about their energy sources.
The government has also approved new rules for energy-related product labels. These rules help consumers make more informed and efficient choices.
Karakaçi highlighted the new Electricity Sector Law as another major step. The law strengthens the energy market and improves security of supply. It also brings Albania closer to the European energy market.
The government has also aligned biofuel legislation with EU rules. It has simplified procedures for renewable energy investments and advanced energy market integration with the EU.
Karakaçi also highlighted the National Plan to Address Energy Poverty. The government has also approved a legal framework for energy communities.
These measures give citizens, businesses and local authorities more opportunities to participate in the energy transition.
The minister said Albania reached the target of more than 600 MW in new renewable energy capacity ahead of schedule. He said this will help create a more diversified and sustainable energy sector.
The reforms also pave the way for the disbursement of €61 million under the Growth Plan and Reform Agenda. The funds will support investment, economic development and Albania’s EU integration process.
Karakaçi said the government will continue working to strengthen the energy sector and bring Albania closer to the European Union.
