TIRANA, September 5 – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha received new European Union Ambassador to Albania Sofia Moreira de Sousa for their first meeting. The two officials discussed Albania’s progress towards European Union membership.
During the meeting, Hoxha stressed the importance of maintaining the pace and momentum of accession negotiations. He reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to reforms and to advancing across the negotiating chapters. He said the process should remain firmly based on merit, results and mutual trust.
Against this backdrop, Moreira de Sousa stressed the importance of continuing reforms and maintaining their pace. She said this was essential for Albania’s progress towards European Union membership. “As European Union Ambassador, I am here to support Albania at every step of this journey,” she said.
The discussion also touched on the recent wildfires in Albania. Moreira de Sousa expressed solidarity with those affected and said the European Union was ready to support the country in dealing with such emergencies. “The European Union is ready to support Albania in dealing with such situations,” she said.
