High wildfire risk expected across 10 Albanian regions

TIRANA, September 7 – The Institute of Geosciences expects a high wildfire risk today and Tuesday across 10 Albanian regions. Air temperatures could reach 34 C.

The institute says the risk will remain high in Shkodër, Lezha, Dibër, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Vlora and Gjirokastër this afternoon and on Tuesday, September 8.

Meanwhile, Kukës and Korça will face a moderate risk. However, localized areas in both regions could face a high risk. The highest risk could affect northeastern Kukës and southern Korça.

The risk will peak today. Weather conditions will not favour rainfall. No rain will fall across the country this afternoon or on Tuesday.

Tomorrow, temperatures will range from 22 to 32 C along the coast, 18 to 34 C in lowland areas and 14 to 32 C in mountainous areas. Winds will remain light to moderate but could strengthen along the coast and in mountainous areas.

High temperatures, a lack of rainfall and wind could increase the risk of wildfires. These conditions require increased attention to prevent fires and limit their spread across forests and pasture areas.
