Albania has been facing persistent outbreaks of fires for several months. In addition to the environmental impact, specialists from the Institute of Public Health (IPH) say that the smoke released by the fires has an immediate impact on public health.
Experts say that certain groups are at greater risk from air pollution caused by the fires. Those most at risk are, of course, people working to extinguish the fires and those living closest to the affected areas, who may face a number of health problems.
For residents living near fire-affected areas, specialists recommend first making sure that they are not at risk from the flames. To protect themselves from the smoke, they should keep their distance and use masks equipped with filters.
