25th anniversary of 9/11, U.S. Embassy in Tirana: We remember the victims and the resilience of the American spirit

The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

In a Facebook post, the embassy honored the memory of the thousands of people who lost their lives. It also paid tribute to the heroes who emerged in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia on the day of the attacks.

“We honor the lives lost, the heroes who emerged in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and the resilience of the American spirit,” the embassy said.

On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists hijacked four passenger planes. They used the aircraft to attack targets in New York and near Washington, D.C.

Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. Another plane struck the Pentagon. The fourth crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers and crew tried to regain control of the aircraft.

The attacks killed 2,977 people, excluding the 19 hijackers. Thousands more were injured. Many survivors and emergency responders later developed serious health problems linked to the attacks.

Twenty-five years later, September 11 remains one of the most significant and tragic events in modern U.S. history. The country continues to honor the victims and remember the sacrifice of the heroes each year.
