President Bajram Begaj expressed deep sadness over today’s Hague verdict against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
In a social media post, Begaj said their determination to appeal the verdict shows strong integrity and resilience.
“For Albanians, no one and nothing can stain the KLA. Freedom has a name,” Begaj wrote.
Meanwhile, the Hague-based Kosovo Specialist Chambers found former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi guilty of war crimes and sentenced each to 25 years in prison. The court sentenced Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years.
The court charged Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi and Krasniqi with crimes against humanity and war crimes, including persecution, murder and torture. All four pleaded not guilty to all charges.
