More than 9.4 million foreign visitors entered Albania in the first eight months of 2026, up 5.3% from the same period last year. Tourism Minister Blendi Gonxhja said more than 2.4 million foreign tourists visited Albania in August alone, marking a 2% annual increase.
Meanwhile, Gonxhja said Albania must turn this growth into sustainable development. He identified quality investment, the events economy, heritage restoration and a wider year-round tourism offer as key priorities. He said these measures could support employment, stronger local economies and family welfare.
The minister also highlighted projects to restore cultural heritage sites. These include historic houses in Gjirokastër, monasteries and other heritage buildings. He also pointed to the restoration of northern towers and thousands of tourism and cultural activities across the country.
In addition, Gonxhja said Albania promotes its tourism offer and investment opportunities at international fairs. He said new year-round and seasonal air routes could improve access to Albania and open new markets. The government aims to turn growing interest in the country into more tourism, jobs, family income and development across Albania.
