The Association of European Journalists, Albanian Section (AEJ), has condemned Meta’s closure of Euronews Albania’s Instagram page, describing the decision as unprecedented and unacceptable.
In a statement, the AEJ said the page had been shut down without any official explanation from Meta.
“The Association of European Journalists, Albanian Section, strongly condemns Meta’s closure of Euronews Albania’s Instagram page without any explanation. This is an unprecedented and unacceptable action by Meta,” the statement reads.
The AEJ called on Meta to immediately restore the page, provide an official explanation for the reasons behind its closure, and compensate Euronews Albania for the financial losses caused.
The association also warned that it would refer the matter to the European Commission and other international authorities, considering the closure of the page an action that, in its view, directly undermines democracy and freedom of expression.
“AEJ will inform the European Commission and other international authorities about this injustice, which directly undermines democracy and freedom of expression,” the statement concludes.
