Albania and France have strengthened their cultural partnership through a new agreement on film co-production.
The Albanian Council of Ministers approved the agreement with the French government, creating a new legal and financial framework to support joint film projects between the two countries.
Under the agreement, co-produced works will receive “national film” status in both Albania and France. As a result, filmmakers will gain direct access to public funding schemes and support programs in both countries without additional administrative procedures.
Furthermore, the productions will benefit from the same legal and fiscal advantages granted to national films in each country. This measure aims to create more favorable conditions for the development of joint cinematic projects.
The agreement also introduces greater financial flexibility. Producers may contribute as little as 10 percent of a project’s total budget, making it easier for Albanian filmmakers to participate in international productions with different financing structures.
In addition, the new framework will increase opportunities for Albanian filmmakers to access international markets, funding sources, and professional networks.
Officials consider the agreement an important step toward strengthening Albania’s film industry and expanding long-term cooperation with France in the fields of art and culture.
The decision will enter into force following its publication in the Official Gazette.
