TIRANA, June 30 – Albania’s U-21 national football team will compete at the Mediterranean Games “Taranto 2026” in Italy. The event runs from 23 August to 1 September 2026. The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games organizes the competition.
The football tournament features eight national teams. Organizers split the teams into two groups. Albania plays in Group B. The team faces Italy, Algeria, and Kosova. Group A includes Morocco, Turkey, Tunisia, and North Macedonia.
Each team plays one match against every group opponent. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals. The winners reach the final and compete for the gold medal.
Meanwhile, organizers schedule matches across four stadiums in southern Italy. These include Iacovone Stadium in Taranto, Ettore Giardiniero Stadium in Lecce, Fanuzzi Stadium in Brindisi, and Giovanni Paolo II Stadium in Francavilla Fontana.
The Mediterranean Games bring together athletes from across the Mediterranean region. The football tournament allows U-21 players to compete at international level. It also gives young players exposure to structured competition.
For Albania’s U-21 team, Taranto 2026 offers strong international experience. The tournament also provides tests against high-level opponents. At the same time, it supports preparation for future competitions.
