TIRANA, June 3 – Prime Minister Edi Rama held a joint press conference with European Council President Antonio Costa in Tirana. He said Albania must maintain its pace in the European Union accession process and thanked Costa for continued support to European integration.
Rama described Costa as a leader with strong experience in European and international affairs and said each meeting offers an opportunity for learning. He added that Albania and Costa agree that domestic work remains central to the process. He stressed that reforms serve Albania’s institutions and public administration and do not serve Brussels or Paris.
Meanwhile, Rama said the current phase focuses on implementation of adopted reforms and laws. He described the process as demanding and said the government must strengthen public communication on reforms. He referred to Portugal’s experience in agriculture and wine production, saying it shows that reform adaptation can deliver results.
At the same time, Rama said both sides agree on maintaining pace and starting the closure of negotiation chapters. He said Albania now enters a decisive phase focused on implementation and results. He concluded that Albania and its European partners share full alignment on priorities and responsibilities in the accession process.
