TIRANA, June 4 – Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja announced the discovery of significant archaeological remains near Lushnja. He said specialists identified a new archaeological site in the village of Zgjana.
According to Gonxhja, experts from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage worked with the Department of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage at the Faculty of History and Philology and the Municipality of Lushnja on the excavation project. During the excavations, researchers uncovered the remains of a Roman-era thermal complex and related structures.
Meanwhile, specialists described the find as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the Lushnja area in recent decades. As a result, the discovery could provide valuable new insight into the history of the region.
In addition, experts from the National Institute of Cultural Heritage will continue research at the site. Further investigations may reveal new historical data and expand knowledge of the area’s cultural heritage. At the same time, the findings could add a new cultural monument and strengthen the region’s appeal for cultural tourism.
